How to Perform Salah at Work | Struggles and Difficulties

How to perform Salah at work is a thought process each one of us is struggling with. Although, praying Salah anywhere should not be a process that requires effort, but unfortunately, we have become so immersed in life that it has become a struggle for us. However, how to perform Salah at work is not a very complex procedure that demands endless effort on our part. It is just a matter of preference and time management.

Importance of Salah

First, we will highlight the importance of praying. Consequently, we will be able to understand how significant it is for us to pray and that how by avoiding Salah we are losing our contact with our Creator.

  • Basic Islamic Pillar

Allah has made Salah one of the basic five pillars of Islam. Without the implementation of these basic pillars, one cannot truly understand the meaning of the word Muslim. By following these pillars, one understands the true essence of Islam and Allah. Our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said,

“The place of Prayer in religion is like the place of the head in the body.”

(Majmau’l-Awsat, 3:154, (2313.) Imam Tabarani, Mu’jamu’s-Saghir)

Through this, we clearly understand the value of Salah in Islam.

  • Ruling on Not to Miss Salah

Islam has made Salah obligatory on every Muslim. Further, we are told not to miss Salah even in detrimental conditions. Islam emphasizes on praying no matter where we are and in what state. There is no relaxation when it comes to the daily five prayers. Our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) gave the following advice to Abu Darda; one of the companions of the Holy Prophet:

Even if you are chopped up and burnt, do not associate partners with Allah and do not miss your fard (obligatory) prayers deliberately. Allah will move His protection away from a person who misses his fard prayers deliberately.”

                                                   (Musnad: 5/238, Al-Bani Sahih Ibn Majah: 3529, Bayhaqi)

The Prophet’s advice to Abu Darda is advice to the entire Muslim Ummah. We have strictly and clearly been informed not to leave Namaz (prayer) even in threatening situations.

How and why Salah helps us in Professional Life

After shedding light on the importance of Salah, we will now talk about the ways which help us in performing Salah at work.

  • Work and Salah go hand in hand

We cannot gain success in this worldly life without holding on to the rope of Allah. Religion is our prime concern. Without taking it along with us, we cannot prosper in this world. For instance, our Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“A person who misses the afternoon prayer is like a person whose family and property have been destroyed.” (Jami  at-Tirmidhi)

In the same vein, when we miss our Salah, we are actually missing out on Allah’s blessings and rewards. We do not pray with the intention of gaining worldly success, but it is a fact that prosperity in the worldly sense can only be gained by Allah’s will. In other words, to make our worldly life pleasant and to gain contentment, we have to pray Salah daily at work.

  • Psychological Benefits of Salah

There are numerous psychological benefits of Salah. Several issues come along with our professional life. Consequently, we face daily pressures regarding work. There has to be some positive aspect in our lives that helps lessen our mental stress. Allah is a complete source of peace and happiness. Similarly, Salah; our basic obligation and medium of our connection with Allah gives us mental peace.

Salah has the ability to pacify and calm humans. Even if we are distressed or mentally disturbed, it is through the help of Salah that we can regain our mental and inner peace. Attaining this spiritual peace is essential for us as it is the nature of law to search for that peace and light. Hence, once we succeed in achieving that, we should be able to retain it by not letting it go. This is only possible by keeping firm our connection with Allah.

  • How to perform Salah which Create Balance

When we pray we remember Allah. Consequently, we understand that everything is in His hands and that we hold no authority at all. Similarly, we understand that our work life is under His command. Hence, making it easier for us to understand that our work is not our only purpose, rather Allah is our priority.

How and why to Perform Salah at Work

The dilemma that Muslims face living in non-Muslims countries is how to perform Salah in public or at workplaces. Here are a few steps that will help you pray at work;

  • How to perform Salah & Where to pray

The most common factor while praying is the place where one can pray. Prayer can be offered at any clean place. One can pray anywhere if the mosque is not available or very far. What we can do is, keep a prayer mat with us or request a clean mat, cloth etc from the office staff and pray at a separate and clean place at our office. Prayer can be offered on a clean ground/floor as well.

  • How to perform Salah & Set priorities

We shall only be able to pray once we set it as our priority. Prayer must not be delayed without any legitimate reason as it is not permissible. A believer whose priority is Allah does not let work distract them or interfere in their remembrance of Allah. Allah talks about the people whose priority is to remember Him when He calls them;

[Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah and performance of prayer and giving of zakah. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about .” (Surah Nur, Ayat 37)

QuraOnline guides toward the right path and teaches how and why to perform Salah at work? and you can also learn Quran with Tajweed to make your Salah more good. Allah helps the one who struggles to retain their contact with Him. Therefore how to pray Salah should not be our concern anymore as surroundings do not matter. If we focus too much on what people think and expect from us, then we are likely to deviate from our path. Our concern should only be to focus on Allah and his commandments and not on man and his judgmental opinions.
