How does Faith Help in Dealing with Grief?

It is not just a saying that faith helps us in dealing with grief, rather the people who have actually gone through pain and hold on to Allah, know the significance of grief in Islam and how Allah takes away all the pain and protects us in difficult times.

Muslims believe that life is a test and every unfortunate happening is a test from Allah. It is our duty and has been commended to us by Allah to be patient in times of pain. It is not the trait of a Muslim to complain and protest against the tests of Allah. In Surah Baqarah, Allah says,

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.”   (Quran 2:155)

Being in this world means that we are surely going to be tested. It is important for us to be patient as pain in one way or another will make its way towards us. Man can only realize the importance of pain when they truly understand that pain is significant in perfecting us and bringing us close to Allah.

  • Understanding Allah’s wisdom in Pain

When grief overpowers you, it is the time to act appropriately. Do not let Shaitan drift you away from Allah’s path. It is focused to deviate you from Allah. Allah sends trials and tribulations for us so that we are able to understand His wisdom and know that He is the only one who controls and protects us in such times.

”Who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’ Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.” (Quran 2:156-157)

By sharing our grief with Allah and by seeking His help and mercy, our grief and pain lessens. Allah is the only Supreme Being that inflicts us with pain for our own benefit and Who has the authority and compassion to make us patient and forget about our pain. The purpose of pain is to perfect humans; if we have enough wisdom to understand it.

  • “Tell My man I am Near”

“And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.” (Quran 2:186)

How and why can we complain to the Being; Most Loving and Most sincere to us. Allah has clearly stated in the Quran that He is near to us. He is with us in times of need and when we are in pain. What else can we ask for? The Supreme Being that controls the entire world is waiting for us to call Him so that He responds and eases our difficulties and pain.

Allah has the power to cool down Abraham’s fire, to bring Jonah (Yunus) alive out of the fish’s stomach, to release Ayub from his deadly affliction and to turn the staff of Moses into a snake. The Lord who is offering us His help is the one Who has such immense powers and can take away the severest of afflictions from man. There is no doubt that these prophets are high in status and caliber. It is difficult for us to achieve that status and love of God, but not impossible. If God is asking us to seek His help, then surely He shall respond by easing our pain and making our hearts peaceful.

For us to understand Allah’s ways and His loving personality, we must recite the Quran and try to understand it. By understanding the Quran, we shall not only find peace but also find solutions to all our problems. It is essential to learn Quran with translation and Tafseer to understand the true essence of word of God. For people, who are in search of Quran tutors near them can contact us.
